Description

Prisoner name: Charles Langhne other Charles Langharne.

Court and Date of Trial: Central Criminal Court November 1849.

Crime: Uttering a forged receipt.

Initial sentence: Seven years' transportation.

Gaoler's Report: Character good. In Portland prison.

Outcome: Free pardon 9 June 1853.

Petitions and letters: Petition by prisoner reciting the circumstances of the offence and pleading his previous good character, respectable connections and asking for a mitigation of the sentence; petition by Emma Langharne, prisoner's wife and undersigned by twenty four friends and relatives, reciting that the prisoner is likely to be sent abroad and asking for him to remain in the country as has an offer of employment if released. She also pleads prisoner's previous good character, delicate constitution, family dependents, good conduct in prison and penitence.

Letter from J Jebb confirming that the prisoner, as a prisoner who has served his detention on public works as sanctioned by the Secretary of State, has served half his sentence with good conduct and recommending a pardon; particulars of prisoner recommending a pardon.
