Description

Folios 237-238: Thomas Sotheby, HMS Andromeda, off Beacon River, Weser. Has embarked all the troops except for about 2000 sick, or dragoons and waggoners. He has told Captain Jones with HMS Sybil and Savage to cooperate with Colonel Barnet and Captain Popham Resident Agent to manage their embarkation when orders arrive. Captain Harcourt agrees that the rest of the troops should move without waiting for these, as they are heavily confined aboard the transports and will get sick. The 550 Royal Emigrants are abroad the transports for Portsmouth with Captain Woodley but he needs orders about them. Admiral Harvey has arrived in Heligoland and he has sent him despatches and a cutter. While waiting for troops he made the Masters and Pilots make detailed plans of the river. He has had a letter from Captain Swaffield HMS Leopard off Heligoland who is waiting with Admiral Harvey. HMS Venus and Kingfisher are protecting the troops going to Newcastle, and HMS Petrell those for Harwich, HMS Lada for Portsmouth and HMS Leopard and Diamond for the Nore. The Nimrod cutter has been left with Captain Jones. Captain Grosland and Gower and Lieutenant Presland have been extremely active and of great service during this embarkation. Lieutenant Probyn missed the Ant cutter but is aboard HMS Venus.
