Folios 238-239: Charles Richardson, HMS Semiramis, at sea. Sending a copy of his account of capturing a French privateer, the Grand Jean Bart, written for Vice Admiral Thornborough.
Folios 240-241: enclosure with folios 238-239. Letter dated 29 February 1812 by Captain Richardson, HMS Semiramis at sea to Vice Admiral Edward Thornborough, Commander-in-Chief at Cork, describing how at daylight on 29 February Richardson had fallen in with and, after a chase of 6 hours, had captured the Grand Jean Bart, privateer, commander Benjamin Dupont, mounting 17 guns and with a complement of 106 men. Describes her as a 'fine brig, quite new' and copper-bottomed, having taken 8 British vessels on her first cruise and 3 on her second. She had been chased several times by British frigates but outsailed them. He found aboard her 3 Masters of the captured vessels and 17 seamen.
