Folios 230-231: Robert Ramsay, Commodore, late Lieutenant Commander of HMS Mistletoe in the River Plate, writing from 7 Adelphi Terrace, London. Cover letter asks that his statement contained within be taken into consideration by their Lordships, and that no officer situated as he had been could have acted otherwise, in accordance with the principles of the Service, particularly when under the observation of foreign Allies. Asks that he may be remunerated for the considerable expenses incurred and for acting under the specific orders of the Commander-in-Chief of HM squadron on the Brazil station. The sums involved are £350, excluding £200 required for an establishment at Buenos Aires which was 'absolutely necessary' for the protection of British seamen, shipping and commercial interests at the critical period following the recent revolution. He is happy to send copies of his orders from Vice Admiral de Courcy if required.
Folios 232-233: enclosure with folios 230-231:. Details of expenditure of more than £300 during Ramsay's service at the River Plate: 27 June to 3 July 1810: transporting the wife and family of the Viceroy of Buenos Aires to Montevideo aboard the Mistletoe; 15 to 21 July: conveyed the wife and family of the Marquis of Sobremonte from Buenos Aires to Montevideo on board the Fanny transport; 25 August to 28 September: conveying Mr. M. A. Padilla, an agent of the British Minister at the court of Brazil, to Buenos Aires and back to Rio de Janeiro; 25 October to 7 November: took Colonel Tenada from Buenos Aires to Montevideo and Maldonado and back; 21 to 28 January 1811: took aboard Dr Moreno, ex Secretary to the Junta of Buenos Aires, for his protection and put him aboard HMS Fame, at the entrance of La Plata; 21 to 28 January took on board also for his protection the son of Luis Cordova, a captain in the Spanish Navy who had commanded a corps at Montevideo and was defeated and put to death. Various other services of similar but minor nature, not detailed, and which he has not included in the expenses claim but has met himself.
