Folios 195-196: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Responding to Mr Barrow's query of 14 February, regarding John Smith. Says Smith was detained by him as being a Mate and Apprentice, but it was later proved that he had not served 3 years at sea so he was discharged before Mr Barrow wrote asking for a report on the man.
Folios 197-198: enclosure with folios 195-196. Letter dated 11 February 1812 by Jonathan Cockerill, North Shields, asking to pay a stipulated sum for the discharge of John Smith, lately impressed in this river and now aboard the Eliza tender. Notes that the young man has still a month to serve according to his old indenture and only then will have been 3 years at sea - sends the indenture to prove this [not now present].
