Folios 182-183: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Responding to Mr Barrow's enquiry of 12 February, re William Preston, now aboard the Eliza tender. Returns the enclosures [not now present]. Preston was impressed by Lieutenant Barwick, commander of the Eliza, on 25 January, and detained for the Service due to a report, supposed to be 'malicious' from Joseph Kittier, Master of the Providence of Lymington, claiming that Preston was a British subject. However, the man has shown Rathborne his discharge from the Poitriers[?] saying he was a native of America.
