Folios 151-152: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Responding to Mr Barrow's query of 4 February re Timothy Waite, now aboard the Eliza tender. Waite was impressed by Lieutenant Lapslie, South Shields, on 30 January, in a boat on the river having just left the ship in which he was a carpenter. Rathborne is sure Waite's certificate is valid but did not feel he could discharge a man who is liable to impress. Says Waite is fit and healthy, aged 39.
Folios 153-154: enclosure with folios 151-152. Petition dated 1 February 1812 by Waite's wife, Elizabeth, North Shields, who says she has 8 children and about to have the ninth, and they are all utterly dependent on Waite, who normally works in the shipyard but had been temporarily working on a ship in the harbour. Begs for his release on compassionate grounds and the letter is co-signed by a dozen or more local people confirming the truth of her statements.
