Folios 143-144: Charles Rowley, HMS Eagle, off Fano. Advising that the bearer of this letter, James Ross, has been boatswain's mate of the Eagle for most of Rowley's command, and latterly captain of the forecastle. He has performed his duties in both capacities greatly to Rowley's satisfaction and is a worthy good man. He has certificates showing long service in the Navy. However, through sickness he has now been sent to the hospital at Malta, and it is probable he will be invalided out - Rowley recommends him to their Lordships' notice and says Ross is thoroughly deserving of being sent to the 'House of Greenwich'.
