Folios 127-128: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Sending on a letter he received from the collector and comptroller of customs at Newcastle last April and saying that James Thompson, the man it concerns, had been impressed the previous day and produced a protection signed by the officers. Asks if their letter of 13th April justifies him in detaining the man for the service.
Folios 129-130: enclosure with folios 127-128. From George Currie at Newcastle Custom House, 13 April 1811, advising that James Thompson had obtained a protection as he was a line manager aboard the Greenland ship Lady Jane, but he has now been marked Run. On the verso, he is described as born in Dublin, now aged 22 with a ruddy complexion and light brown hair.
Folio 131: enclosure with folios 127-128. Official protection certificate made out for James Thompson, seaman, on 9 December 1811, stating that he was born in Northumberland and has sailed two voyages in the Greenland trade. Now made Line Manager for the Eliza, under Master John Parker, and therefore is not to be impressed from her, nor from any coaster or collier.
