Description

Folios 115-116: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Sending a report on the case of John Green, now aboard the Namur, as requested in Mr Barrow's letter of 23 January. Green was impressed by Lt Flinn on 3 December and detained as having no exemption. He claimed to have been discharged from the Africa after inheriting some property but offered no proof of this except a certificate from Mr Forbes at Portsmouth saying that the discharge papers of John Green had been sent to the Inspector of Seamen's Wills - Rathborne says this 'might have served anyone' and there was no description of Green appended - he believes it was obtained under false pretence. Says Green is about 49 and fit for duty as a petty officer.

Folios 117-118: enclosure with folios 115-116. Letter dated 19 January 1811 to the Admiralty from John Green aboard HMS Namur, detailing his impress and saying his discharge papers had now been sent to him at the Nore and he was enclosing them for their Lordships' consideration. The second page is a form certifying John Green's service as an able seaman on HMS Africa, from 3 March to 1 November 1810, with a handwritten part saying he was discharged by order of Admiral Sawyer after becoming heir to 'a considerable property'. The form is signed by John Bastard, Captain,
