Folios 111-112: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Responding to Mr Barrow's query of 15 January asking to know Lieutenant Lapslie's reasons for keeping the discharge certificate of James Davis, impressed by him on 7 December - Rathborne says that Lapslie had actually handed over the certificate with Davis's other papers when the man was examined and Rathborne kept them for sending on to the Admiralty in the case of any request for discharge, as he always does. He believes Davis is impersonating his brother (deceased) and was sailing in the coal trade.
Folios 113-114: enclosure with folios 111-112. Letter dated 12 January 1812 by James Davis, aboard the Ceres at the Great Nore, saying he had been pressed on 25 April 1809, sent to the Ceres on 1 May, and discharged into the Namur the following day. A few days later he was transferred again to HMS Cerberus, Captain Whitby. He found two substitutes who joined the service in June so he was discharged and sent home in the Ruby. But he was again pressed by Lieut. Lapslie on 7 December 1811.
