Folios 461-462: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Responding to the letter of 13 December. A report on the case of Alexander Davie, as he is recorded in the books, was sent on 8 August. he returned the enclosure.
Folio 463-464: enclosure with folios 461-462. Letter dated 7 December 1811 from Watson May, Greenock. John Davie was engaged last July to be Carpenter on the ship Alexander, which was being built at Sunderland. He received an Affidavit from the Custom House and was issued with a Protection. When returning to the ship with the rest of the crew from the supplier of victuals, they were pressed. An application was made for their discharge but was refused on the grounds that they were taken after permitted hours. His family is destitute and needs his support. Applies for his discharge.
