Folios 424-425: W Pearce, Admiralty Office. Mr Deare, one of the Board's Auditors, is father-in-law to Captain Rainier of HMS Norge and has asked in the enclosed letter to submit the enclosed Affidavit to enable Captain Rainier's solicitor to make the best defence possible. Mr Pearce has informed Mr Deare that his letter should be addressed to The Admiralty, but is forwarding it to save time. Mr Mellish's letter, which encloses the Certificates and Affidavits, is among the other letters which relate to the subject. He encloses 10 certificates and 2 Affidavits.
Folios 426-427: enclosure with folios 424-425: letter dated 4 December 1811 from P H Deare, Somerset Place, to William Pearce, The Admiralty. Takes up Mr Pearce's offer to apply to his friend Mr Baynes, and sends the enclosed papers. Asks that they are returned, or that he can call to collect them, as Captain Rainier's agent in the action against him by the Greenland men. These documents are necessary for Mr Tatham, who is to defend the case. Ten Certificates and 2 Affidavits were transmitted to The Admiralty in his letters of 21 September and 23 October.
Folio 428-429: enclosure with folios 424-425: Affidavit dated 10 September 1811 sworn by William Cooper before Thomas Platt at Lord Chief Justice Ellenborough's Chambers, Serjeants Inn, Chancery Lane. William Cooper, Master of the ship Dundee swears that Thomas J Connor, Linemanager, William Drain, Seaman, and John Swain, Seaman, sailed in the ship in March to Greenland. Their names were included in the list which given by the Owner to the Collectors of Customs, London, from whence the ship sailed. The men undertook to sail in the ship to Greenland in the following season. On their return on 14 August they were pressed in Ozeley Bay and taken on board HMS Norge. William Cooper swears that the list was accurate and that they were Protected. Applies for their discharge.

Andrew Westwater, Master of the Greenland ship Ocean, swears that Robert Clint, Boatsteerer, George Garrett, Seaman, Richard Spencer, Boatsteerer, John Hunter, Boatsteerer, Thomas Tindel, Linemanager, Robert Beuze, Linemanager, and Robert Woodward, Boatsteerer, sailed in the ship in March for Greenland. Their names were included in the list given by the Owner to the Collector of Customs at London, from whence the ship sailed.
