Description

Folios 393-394: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Responding to the letter of 29 November and sends a report on the case of William Taylor. He returns the enclosure, with the Protection taken from him when pressed [not present]. William Taylor, Ordinary Seaman, was pressed by Lieutenant Flinn, North Shields, on 25 November and detained for the Service as having been employed as a fisherman for nearly 5 years before bound to the sea. The statement in the enclosed letter regarding his father is correct, and he acknowledged that his son was so employed, but hopes for his discharge. William Taylor is 19 years old, a stout young man well suited for service.

Folios 395-396: enclosure with folios 393-394. Undated letter from Charles Everington, Cullercoats, near North Shields, to The Admiralty. His Apprentice, William Taylor, bound by the enclosed Indenture , has been pressed. At the time he was bound he was assisting his father Robert Taylor in sailing a small boat employed in fishing at Cullercoats. He is now upwards of 18 years old, and has been employed nearly 3 years. His father lost his right arm and left eye in HMS Content, commanded by Captain Roy, about 32 years ago, and needs his son to help him.

Folios 397-398: enclosure with folios 393-394. Indenture dated 19 February 1811 in the name of William Taylor, Apprentice to Charles Everington from 14 February 1811.
