Folios 377-378: Edward Rodney, HMS Africaine, Spithead. He has been informed by David Ellis, Boatswain of HMS Africaine, that the accounts for HMS Eclipse have been passed but his Agent, Mr Moss at Plymouth, tells him that he cannot receive any pay until he produces a Certificate of not being absent for 6 weeks at any one time. Requests a Dispensing Order for the above document, which he will find impossible to obtain due to deaths and the manner in which his various Captains have been dispersed. He is willing to swear under oath that he was not absent from HMS Eclipse for one week for any purpose. Note from Captain Rodney: The certificates are enclosed [not present] and he requests their return.
