Folios 286-287: Peter Rye, HMS Providence, River Humber. Reports his arrival. On 22 October his convoy was hit by a severe gale when off the Scaw. He was prevented from sheltering at Marstrand, and 15 of his convoy took off on their own accord for Kleadesholmen. He considered they had made a correct decision and made the signal for the remainder to put into a suitable port, which they did. Reports that Klaedesholmen is an excellent harbour with a safe passage within the rocks to Gothenberg. As his convoy was safe he tacked westward overnight. He met the gun brig HMS Blazer with 2 vessels under convoy from Heligoland, and also spoke with HMS Pylades, taking a convoy from The Nore. He learnt from Captain Ferguson that he had sailed with the convoy intended for HMS Trinculo. Since then, HMS Providence has experienced severe gales and sustained some damage. Requests permission to dock for a few days for repairs. The last time HMS Providence was in dock, in Devon, was 1809.
