Folios 277-278: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Responding to the letter of 21 October regarding the escape of the two French prisoners Jean Smith and Nicolas Kambran from the House of Correction. Every step was taken to apprehend them. Notice was given to the Commanders of the Militia along the coast and to all other people likely to meet them, and advertisements were placed, with descriptions, in the Newcastle Paper. he gives a detailed description of each man at the time of their escape. He understands that on the day after escape they departed in a pleasure boat that was lying at Alnmouth, with provisions for a party going on an excursion.
