Folios 275-276: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Responding to the letter of 18 October regarding the imprisonment of the Greenlandmen who have been acting in a riotous manner on the River Tyne. He cannot find anyone to identify any of the three rioters. At the time they were rioting, he offered to suppress them with the aid of civil authorities as he did not consider he was authorized to press them. There was some legal difficulty in getting action from magistrates as the river is in the County of Newcastle, one side in the County of Durham, and the other in the county of Northumberland. As he now has been given authority to press the men, he is sure that this can be effected with the officers and men already under his orders, and will allow him to prevent future disturbances.
