Folios 267-268: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. Responds to the letter of 19 October and sends a report into the case of William Tickle, on board HMS Ceres or HMS Namur. Sends a copy of his report of 6 September for information [not present]. William Pickle, Able Seaman, was pressed by Lieutenant Flinn, North Shields, on 23 August and detained as being an Apprentice illegally appointed Mate to protect him from pressing. He is a 7 year Apprentice and has served 6 ½ years. William Tickle is 21 years old, an active stout young man well suited to service.
Folios 269-270: enclosure with folios 267-268. Petition dated 16 October 1811 by Thomas Gibson, Shipowner, Newcastle upon Tyne, to The Admiralty. His Apprentice William Tickle was pressed in August from the ship William in Shields harbour and sent to the guard ship at The Nore. An application has been made by his mother, who is a widow, to allow her to find a substitute, or pay a sum of £80 for his discharge. She has been informed that the application must be made by the Master of the Apprentice.
