Folio 223-224: Robert Rolles, HMS Edinburgh, off West Capel. Acknowledges receipt of the letter of 3 October, enclosing a memorial from George Farney, formerly Purser of the late ship HMS Laurel when under Captain Rolles' command, and asking for a report concerning this Officer. He regrets that due to the length of time which has passed since they served togather (16 years) and the short time they served together (4 weeks only) he has so little recollection of Mr Farney that he is unable to make a report. It is proper to observe that Mr Farney must be mistaken if he believes he was deprived of his Books and Papers by the loss of HMS Laurel, as the ship was paid off in Jamaica. Captain Rolles, the Officers and the crew were turned over to HMS Renommee some time before HMS Laurel was sunk as a hulk in Port Royal harbour.
