Folios 219-220: Andrew Lapslie, on behalf of Captain Rathborne, Regulating Office, North Shields. Responds to the letter of 8 October and sends a report on the case of William Whiten, currently on board the Lyra tender. He returns the enclosure with the Protection issued on his behalf [not present]. William Whiten, Ordinary Seaman, was pressed by Lieutenant Liddle, Sunderland, on 16 September and detained as having no legal exemption from pressing. The enclosed Indenture [not present] was produced, which appears to belong to another man, as both the name and date have been changed. The Protection (which has not been produced) appears to have been granted on 5 August 1807, and the Indenture is altered to 1810, which corroborates the fact. The enclosed letter states that the Protection was granted on 15 December 1810. William Whiten is about 19 years old, an active healthy young man, well suited for service. Captain Rathborne is at the Quarter Sessions for the trial relating to the French prisoners.
Folios 221-222: enclosure with folios 219-220. Letter dated 5 October 1811 from Charles Heath, Colchester, Essex to the Admiralty. His apprentice William Whiten, who has a Protection granted on or about 15 December 1810, was pressed recently at Sunderland. He had with him Mr Heath's Indenture, and his own Indenture. The Protection was lost when he was sailing in a vessel which sunk. Requests the discharge of his Apprentice.
