Folios 172-173: Thomas Flinn, on behalf of Captain Rathborne, Regulating Office, North Shields. Responds to the letter of 20 September with a report on the case of John Hanall Irvine and returns the enclosures. John Hanall Irvine, Ordinary Seaman, was pressed on 12 September when on shore, drinking in a public house. He attacked the Midshipman, behaved in a riotous manner and later offered a £5 bribe to let him escape. He is about 38 years old, has been at sea for over 20 years, and is a stout healthy man, very well suited to service.
Folios 174-175: enclosure with folios 172-173. Letter dated 17 September 1811 by William Harrison, Dockwray Square, [North Shields], to The Admiralty. Writing on behalf of John Hanall, Mate of the ship Good Agreement, of North Shields. Following a voyage to America he had gone on shore and was pressed. The Officer refused to release him as he was not on duty. He is willing to pay £80, which he understands is acceptable to find substitute. Requests his discharge and hopes to receive a Protection.
