The Admiralty Fuels and Lubricants Advisory Committee was set up in 1953 to carry out recommendations made by the Admiralty Oil Quality Committee, which had pointed out deficiencies in the supply and quality of fuels and lubricants used by the Royal Navy. The functions of the Committee were subsequently expanded so that it became a forum for the high level exchange of views between the Admiralty and the petroleum industry. It supervised work of its sub-committees and the Admiralty Oil Laboratory. The Committee also advised the Admiralty on problems of supply of fuels and lubricants, and it represented the Royal Navy on tripartite committees with the Royal Canadian Navy and United States Navy. It also dealt with International standardisation and joint research and development aspects of fuels and lubricants.
This series consists of minutes and annual reports of the Committee, and minutes of the tripartite committees.
