Description

Folios 354-355: Wilson Rathborne, Regulating Officer, North Shields. is sending a report on Gregory Ash, sent by the Lyra to the Nore on 23 August 1810. He was impressed by Lieutenant Dathan on a positive identification from a Master that he had been in the Navy before and was three years in the Sea Fencibles in Ireland as a fisherman.

Folios 356-357: enclosure with folios 354-355. Letter dated 26 August 1810 by J. J. Mallett, High Street, Shadwell, Agent for Josh Cockshott, Owner of the Nancy Coaler. Is sending an indenture to get Gregory Ash discharged.

Folio 358: enclosure with folios 354-355. Printed certificate that Gregory Ash is exempt from impressment as he is an apprentice to Josh Cockshott of Rotherhithe.

Folios 359-360: enclosure with folios 354-355. Letter dated 28 August 1810 by William Shanks, at the Public Office Shadwell. Swears that Gregory Ash is an apprentice of Josh Cockshott, Rotherhithe on the Nancy. Hugh Stokell, Master of the Nancy also swore that Ash had never been at sea before the indenture. He is now detained on the Lyra and should be released as he is a native of Ireland as well and was a pikeman in a Fencible regiment and also an employee at the Chatham Dockyard.
