This would have devastated Orkney so the Lieutenant of the County asked Richan to take the prisoners to the island of Sandy in HMS Norfolk in terrible weather. He prevented the inhabitants from plundering the Dutch frigate which was sent to Leith where it was sold and the prisoners taken to the mainland. Richan has been three years in London trying to get his share of the prize money at great expense. He claims one eighth of the prize.
