Folios 256-257: Robert Rolles, 49 George Street, Portman Square. Has received the petition of Sergeant Croucher Royal Marines. The statements made in the petition are the same as he made to Lieutenant Pild at the time. Robert Ashley Baley had been a Lieutenant in the West Indies and was the person who made sail and left his Captain in a boat at night when the Captain and crew were lost. Baley was Court Martialled for un officer like behaviour. His time with Rolles in HMS Lion convinced him that Baley's behaviour was due to intoxication. He is glad to hear of the excellent behaviour of John Croucher of the Royal Marines and the ship's company.
Folios 258-259: enclosure with folios 256-257. Note to say that the Admiralty if pleased with the recommendation by Rolles for the Sergeant.
