Description

Folios 255-256: Henry Evelyn Pitfield Sturt, HMS Termagant, Sheerness. Encloses a Certificate of Apprenticeship for Thomas Fleming, Acting Carpenter, with another for his two years service as Carpenter's Mate on HMS Trusty. Mentions Fleming's praiseworthy conduct in repairing HMS Termagant, without the aid of costly American assistance, after hitting some rocks and asks for his appointment as Carpenter to be confirmed, particularly as this was agreed before they sailed for the States but his Warrant has never been received.

Foilo 257: enclosure with folios 255-256. John Duncan, First Lieutenant late of HMS Trusty, on board HMS Skylark, 23 November 1809. Certificate of Service and Good Conduct for Thomas Fleming confirming he served as a Carpenter's Mate on HMS Trusty from1 September 1808 to 20 March 1809.

Folio 258: enclosure with folios 255-256. Alexander Paton, Anstruther Easter, 13 November 1809. Certificate of Apprenticeship for Thomas Fleming, confirming he completed the four year apprenticeship commencing in 1794 with Alexander Paton, Shipbuilder, Anstruther and that he worked several times afterwards for Paton as a Journeyman.

Folios 258-259: enclosure with folios 255-256. Alexander Paton, Anstruther, 13 November 1809 to Thomas Fleming. Letter attaching Certificate that he has legally completed his apprenticeship.
