Folios 239-240: James Slade, HMS Experiment, Falmouth. States the case of James Hamm, 20, who was sent on board with 2 other Landsmen from the Liverpool Rendezvous as substitutes for David McCowle on board HMS Salvador del Mundo. He was sent on board HMS Tromp for a passage to Plymouth.
Folios 241-242: enclosure with folios 239-240. Letter dated 5 May 1810 from Henry and Alice Ham, St Ewe near St Austell, Cornwall. In the letter witnessed by Walter Pomery, the parents of James Hamm state that he joined HMS Experiment without their knowledge or consent. James Ham greatly regrets his decision, as do his parents who offer to provide 2 Landsmen at their own expense if he can be discharged.
