Folios 199-200: Alexander Skene, HMS Hussar, Spithead. States the case of John Tilly serving as an Ordinary Seaman and aged 23. He was impressed by Lord James Townshend in 1808 when he had served an apprenticeship on board Two Sisters, a fishing boat at Plymouth. He was taken on board HMS Halifax, later HMS Hussar, but was never a volunteer.
