Description

Folios 92-93: Clement Sneyd, HMS Muros off the Seven Islands coast of France. Encloses letters.

Folios 94-95: enclosure with folios 92-93. Clement Sneyd has been told by Sir Edward Pellew that an order had been sent to India that he should be tried by court martial for his conduct in charge of a convoy on board HMS Sir Francis Drake when he had encountered a French frigate La Piedmontaire (later captured by HMS St Fiorenzo). He explains his conduct in that encounter and encloses letters from Sir Edwards Pellew and the officers of HMS Sir Francis Drake when he handed command to Captain Harris.

Folios 96-97: enclosure with folios 92-93. An unsigned statement that no court martial is ordered for Captain Sneyd nor had any report made to the East Indies.

Folios 98-99: enclosure with folios 92-93. A letter of thanks and praise written to Captain Sneyd signed by Robert Andoe First Lieutenant, J. Henderson Second Lieutenant, Richard John Head Third Lieutenant, William Patterson Master, Robert White Lieutenant Royal Marine and William Kimber Purser all serving on HMS Sir Francis Drake.

Folios 100-101: enclosure with folios 92-93. Clement Sneyd writes to Vice Admiral Sir Edward Pellew giving a detailed account of his conduct during the encounter with the French frigate.

Folio 101: enclosure with folios 92-93. Sir Edward Pellew, HMS Culloden, writes to Clement Sneyd approving of the conduct of the officers and crew of HMS Sir Francis Drake.
