Folios 303-304: John Clarke Searle, HMS Pelican, Galleons Reach. As he was informed some time ago that signal flags were not allowed for Sloops rigged as Brigs, he asked in a previous letter for directions to The Navy Board to order a supply for the use of HMS Pelican, as they are necessary for making and receiving private signals. He did not receive an answer, so he repeated his request in the last letter. The reply received last night instructed him to apply to the Navy Board, but he has been advised to apply to The Admiralty. Repeats his request, and asks that the storekeepers at Sheerness at directed to supply them.
