Folios 289-290: Henry Edwin Stanhope, HMS Ruby, Plymouth. He wrote on 22 December that his ship is short of a Lieutenant, and asked for the appointment of Benjamin McClain, currently Mate of HMS Ruby. He has served 30 years, and rejected his Command of a ship in the Oporto Trade for service in the Navy. Requests consideration of his application, based only on merit.
