Folios 283-284: [Matthew] Squire, HMS Magnificent, Blackstakes. Encloses a letter received from the Carpenter of HMS Magnificent. He is a goos deserving man, but unfit for active service due to age and infirmity.
Folios 285-286: enclosure with folios 283-284. Letter dated 26 October 1795 from David Creed, HMS Magnificent, Blackstakes, to Captain Squire. States that he has served 40 years, with 19 as Carpenter, but age and infirmity prevent him from carrying out his duties. He sometimes has violent rheumatic pains, and his hearing and eyesight are failing. Requests superannuation.
