Folios 241-242: Thomas Sparke, [Regulating Officer], Newport Pagnell. Reports that yesterday 5 able bodied young men were brought in as volunteer substitutes to serve in The navy, all of whom are fit for service. As the Midsummer sessions closed the previous day, he wishes to know whether he has permission to pass them, and whether the Magistrates will have justification in ordering the County Treasurer to pay them their bounty money from the fines remaining in the County accounts. Would also like instructions on dealing with similar future cases until the quota for the County is complete. As the men are being retained at considerable expense, he would appreciate a response by return.
