Folios 221-222: John Clarke Searle, HMS Pelican, Woolwich. Reports that the lack of a Purser on board is causing much inconvenience to the crew, and some expense to the Officers. The duty of the ship is held up for 2 hours every day while they seek provisions from other ships. Asks that Mr White joins immediately, or another Purser is appointed. He has requested provisions, which were sent on board today, to try and speed up progress. Nevertheless, he fears that he will be prevented from going down river next week without a proper person to take charge and issue the stores, and for lack of coal, wood, candles etc.
