Description

Folios 185-186: John Scoffin, HMS Viper, Spithead. Reports that he left Cork with the convoy on 17 July, following orders from Vice Admiral Kingsmill. He encloses a copy of the orders. The convoy all arrived safely.

Folio 187: enclosure with folios 185-186. Orders dated 17 July 1795 issued by Vice Admiral R Kingsmill, on board HMS Diana, Cork Harbour, to Captain Scoffin, HMS Viper. Captain Scoffin to proceed with 6 named transport ships carrying 103 Regiment of Foot, together with the detained American ships the John and the Martha, along with the trade vessels bound to the English Channel. To see the transport ships and the American vessels safely as far as Portsmouth if the winds permit, otherwise to Plymouth. To report his arrival and then to return to join Vive Admiral Kingsmill immediately without staying in port. The City of Cork tender is also to proceed under his escort to Plymouth.

Named vessels the Hope, Industry, Jenney, Lavinia, Robert and George, Industry, Ann, John, together with details of owners, Masters, number on board and other details.
