Folios 511-512: Robert Rolles, Sea Fencibles, Hastings. Encloses a letter received from Captain Lake superintending the Sea Fencibles near Beachy Head which, together with the notes from the Signal Station, will show how this part of the coast is infested with Privateers. Describes when they generally see them.
Folios 513-514: enclosure with folios 511-512. Captain T Lake, Eastbourne, The enclosed reports from Beachy Head will inform him of the enemy's privateers. Recommends that a cruiser stationed in Eastbourne Roads would add to the protection of the trade. Describes when the privateers are particularly active. Recommends the anchorage and the actions to be taken when the privateers are spotted. As per Lieutenant Lee's note no. 2, says the gun at Beachy Head is useful but recommends it be replaced by a 24 pounder.
Folio 515: enclosure with folios 511-512. Note No 1 dated 14 April 1809, 1pm, from Lieutenant W Lee, Beachy Head. He has made the signal for an enemy's lugger which is being repeated at Seaford. There is no cruiser in sight and several trading vessels coming up channel.
Folio 516: enclosure with folios 511-512. Note No 2 dated 14 April 1809, 5pm, from Lieutenant W Lee, Beachy Head. The lugger reported this morning has just captured a brig between there and Seaford. She attempted other captures but was deterred by his firing at her. There is another lugger to the east which tired to capture the same vessels but they ran into Pevensey Bay.
Folios 517: enclosure with folios 511-512. Note No 3 dated 14 April 1809, 6pm, from Lieutenant W Lee, Beachy Head. Another lugger appeared and is looking at vessels in Bourn Roads. The one that captured the brig is standing in towards Seaford. There is a chain of them all the way to Dungeness so that it will be almost impossible for any vessel to escape them as there are no cruisers in sight.
Folio 518: enclosure with folios 511-512. Remarks dated 15 April 1809, 1pm, from Lieutenant W Lee, Beachy Head to Captain W Lake. Reports on weather. at 6.45 saw 4 enemy luggers. Signal not answered and no cruisers in sight. Later 1 cruiser in the westward. Signal answered by HMS Blossom. At noon no cruisers in sight.
