Folios 461-462: Charles Rowley, 34 Wimpole Street, [London]. In 1805 he was appointed to HMS Eagle under orders for the Mediterranean. At that time he had the command of HMS Ruby in Yarmouth Roads. As directed by the Admiralty he proceeded by lad and joined HMS Eagle. His servants, followers and baggage were ordered round in HMS Woodlark gun brig which was lost on the coast of France. His servants and followers were made prisoners and all his baggage was lost. In May 1806 he captured the island of Capri by order of Rear Admiral Sir Sydney Smith and remained senior officer in the Bay of Naples the whole of that summer. In consequence of the war in Calabria the chiefs of the Massie assembled with their forces from time to time in Capri which could not afford the Chiefs a Principal Officer's provision and so it was necessary that get kept a table for them. He was obliged to give them money to susbsist their followers. He frequently hired boats to send information to Gaita and to other parts of the coast to gain information Asks for remuneration for the loss of his baggage and the additional expenses incurred.
