Folios 227-228: Edward Roe, Sunderland. Requests directions with regard to the enclosed letter from the Secretary of the Coal Fitters of Sunderland. Notes that people in Sunderland come forward with spirit and cheerfulness, and he expects to recruit a large number of Sea Fencibles. There are a number of ships' carpenters living locally, now with families. Asks if these men may be enrolled as Fencibles, and protected accordingly.
Folios 229-230: enclosure with folios 227-228. Letter dated 20 July 1803 by Thomas Sanderson for the Sunderland Coalfitters. Petitioning that as coalfitters are individually bound as apprentices, they may be freed from being counted as part of the quota required from Sunderland for the Navy, and instead become Sea Fencibles.
