Folios 479-480: John Russel, HMS Gier, Downs. After trials at sea, he reports that his ship is tender under canvas occasioned by her having more masts than her hull is calculated to bear. He requests directions to have a reduction in her masts - 4 sheets from the lower masts and 7 sheets from each top mast.
