Folios 616-617: Thomas Macnamara Russell, HMS Vengeance, Spithead. On 8 July 1795 Petro Albani and others who had been taken from an armed smuggler, impressed and put aboard HMS St Albans by order of Sir Peter Parker. He then came to HMS Vengeance. He speaks Spanish, French and Italian and it is impossible to say where he is from. He implored to leave and join his family in Leghorn but then he suddenly spoke English and said he had a wife and family on Jersey. He has been rated a Petty Officer as he is a fine man. On April 7 1798, the Officers donated some of their pay towards the cost of the war. He asked the sailors what they would give and no one answered but they all looked at Albani so he assumed that he had poisoned the men. He landed Albani at Portola as he dreaded his influence. He should be paid for his time aboard.
