Folios 612-613: Thomas Macnamara Russell, HMS Vengeance, Downs. On June 1 1799 he had news from a Danish ship that had been brought by two Spanish Frigates and two galleons bound for Spain from Havannah. He sent HMS Pearl to intercept but at daylight he saw five sail and gave chase along with HMS Pearl and Perdrix. Despite his orders the convoy altered their course and he had to give up the chase of the Spaniards who disposed of casks overboard and managed to escape.
