Folios 267-268: Thomas Roberts, HMS Serpent in the Downes. Enclosing the orders from Lord Gardner, Admiral of the Blue, to have 4 months of supplies and asks for permission to put into Plymouth for a supply.
Folios 269-270: enclosure with folios 267-268. Letter dated 23 February 1801 from Lord Alan Gardner, HMS Cerberus, Cork Harbour to Thomas Roberts, HMS Serpent. Henry Haslett, agent for the Linen merchant ships at Belfast, Lord Donegall and Draper with other vessels have requested that a convoy is appointed for their protection to the Downes. He is ordered to sail from Belfast Lough as soon after 28 February for the Downes and call off Newry for any other trade, dropping of trade bound for the ports in the channel en route. After he is ordered back to Cork. If the weather is unfavourable, he is to put into Plymouth and get stores for 4 months but not to delay the sailing of the convoy for this purpose.
