Folios 227-228: Keith Maxwell, London. West Indies nine months ago, Sir John Duckworth at Jamaica ordered HMS Hound to Bay of [??]dars. Moved him to vacancy on HMS Hercule. Gave him command of La Vertu frigate captured at San Domingo. Fitted her out for sea. No orders when she sailed with the convoy appointed one of his officers. Cruised off San Domingo as acting Captain HMS Tartar as Captain [John] Perkins was sick. Returned to England on the Packet as no orders when he returned to Port Royal. HMS La Vertu laid up in ordinary at Plymouth. Raised fifteen hundred men at Deptford. Says he left everything in the West Indies because of Yellow Fever. Seeks employment.
