Folios 484-485: Peter Rothe, Regulating Captain, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Has recieved a letter stating that they had recieved the enclosed application, Indenture and Certificate [not present] from Rowland Burdon, MP for Durham requesting the discharge of Thomas Wilson, an Apprentice, who escaped from France and was impressed on his way home, but escaped from the Tender at Shields, finding no one of that name on his books, has written to Lieutenant William Abbs, Regulating Officer at Sunderland and encloses his reply.
Folios 486-487: enclosure with folios 484-485. Letter January 22 1788 from Lieutenant William Abbs, Regulating Officer, Sunderland to Peter Rothe, Regulating Captain, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. States that Thomas Willson is known to him, was taken prisoner by the French, made his escape, was pressed on his passage home, ran from her, came to Sunderland where friends and his master, he being an Apprentice and under 18, made an Application to allow him to continue, but being a Deserter, he asked them to state his case to the Admiralty but they never disclosed the reply.
