Map 33. 'U S Coast Survey chart: Washington Sound and Approaches, Washington Territory'. The chart shows, besides Washington territory, territory of British Columbia bordering the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Gulf of Georgia. Table of abbreviations for the sea bottom, table of lighthouses, tide table, note on sources. Compass roses. Made under supervision of A D Bache Superintendent. Triangulation executed between 1853 and 1859. Topography and hydrography between 1841 and 1850. Verified by J E Hilyard, U S Coast Survey. Electrotype Copy number 1 by G Mathiot, U S C S. Enclosure to a printed copy of the Anglo-United States Treaty of 8 May 1871. Manuscript note: 'Map provided at the State Department for the use of the High Commission at Washington--1871'. In a volume of maps on the Juan de Fuca boundary question sent to Admiral Prevost 12 June 1872. A note by E Hertslet [Foreign Office Librarian] reads: 'received from Lord Tenterden June 26/71'
