Drawn by Charles Preuss Under the Order of the Senate of the United States, Washington City 1848'. Shows land west of about 103°W between the Mexican and Canadian borders. At top of map: 'Profile of the travelling route from the South Pass of the Rocky Mountains to the Bay of San Francisco'. Table of explanation. Lithographed by E Weber and Co, Baltimore. Photozincographed and prepared at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton. Two copies of the map: one copy certified by Major General Sir Henry James, one is dated 5 September 1871. Manuscript boundaries coloured green.
