Map 8. 'Map of Oregon and Upper California From the Surveys of John Charles Frémont And other Authorities. Drawn by Charles Preuss Under the Order of the Senate of the United States, Washington City 1848'. Shows land west of about 103°W between the Mexican and Canadian borders. At top of map: 'Profile of the travelling route from the South Pass of the Rocky Mountains to the Bay of San Francisco'. Table of explanation. Lithographed by E Weber and Co, Baltimore. Photozincographed and prepared at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton. Two copies of the map: one copy certified by Major General Sir Henry James, one is dated 5 September 1871. Manuscript boundaries coloured green.
