Description

Folios 206-207: Pulteney Malcolm, HMS Donegal, Spithead. Encloses a copy of his orders from Rear Admiral Thomas Louis in the event of his becoming separated from him on the passage from Jamaica. Reports that he lost contact with HMS Canopus, HMS Spencer and HMS Jupiter in a gale on 8 April, and the next day saw HMS Alexander and HMS Brave, the latter signalling that her rudder was damaged. The next day Commander Edmund Boger of the Brave signalled that she was leaking. As it was impossible to repair the leaks, the ship was eventually was abandoned in Latitude 38º 16' N, Longitude 56º 21' W. Encloses a list of one Mate, one Midshipman and 13 seamen from the Brave whom he would like to take onto the Donegal's books to make up her complement.

Folio 208: enclosed with folios 206-207. Copy of orders dated 25 March 1806 from Rear Admiral Thomas Louis, HMS Canopus, at sea, to Captain Pulteney Malcolm, HMS Donegal. In the event that he becomes separated from the convoy, fixes a rendezvous near the Western Isles, where Captain Malcolm may meet Vice Admiral Sir John Thomas Duckworth in HMS Superb. Otherwise he is to go on to Spithead.

Folio 209: enclosed with folios 206-207. Captain Pulteney Malcolm, and Carpenter William Forster, HMS Donegal, Spithead. A list of the ship's defects.

Folio 210: enclosed with folios 206-207. Captain Pulteney Malcolm, HMS Donegal, Spithead. Nominal list of 15 men from the crew of HMS Brave whom he would like to add to his own ship's company.
