Describes in detail his cruise along the African coast since the previous September and his efforts to communicate with the shore at various points. Encloses a letter from Diggly Bayley at Williams Fort. Mentions: the merchant vessel Simon Taylor, HMS Active, HMS Lark. the French ships Marengo and Belle Poule, Madeira, Goree, Sierra Leone, Cape Coast Castle, Cape Palmas, Quittah, Popoe, Widah, Bonny, Old Calabar, the River Cameroon, Fernando Po, the Cape of Good Hope, Guinea, England, Governor Torrence, Governor Hamilton, French Admiral Charles-Alexandre Léon Durand Linois, Commander Frederick Langford.
Folios 200-202: enclosed with folios 198-199. Letter dated 5 Jan 1805 from Diggly Bayley, Williams Fort, to Captain Micajah Malbon, HMS Hebe. Describes his miserable position in what he refers to as 'the worst country in the world', being employed to buy slaves for the [Royal African ] Company, but not being allowed to purchase even a single one because the local king gives all the trade to the Portuguese, and being the only Englishmen resident in Widah. The fort and its defences are in a poor state of repair. Mentions Acomey, Governor Hamilton, Mr James.
Folios 202-203: enclosed with folios 198-199. Letter dated 9 February 1806 from Captain Micajah Malbon, HMS Hebe, Prince's Island, Coast of Africa. Reports that during his cruise he anchored the mouth of the River Bonny and sent Lieutenant Bridges up the river in an armed cutter to make contact with officers of the Royal African Company, to notify them that a convoy would collect at Prince's Island for passage to the West Indies. Describes how the cutter was attacked by native canoes and that one man, Quarter Gunner William Hadley, was killed and seven injured: Master's Mate George Ricketts and seamen William Grover, John Jacobs, William Robertson, Thomas Smith, John Webster and John Danyal [?].
