Folios 97-98: Wilson Rathborne, North Shields. Reporting on Roger Tongs, and enclosing the indentures and a Mate's Affadavit. Roger Tongs was impressed at Sunderland by Lieutenant Liddle and had no exemption. He is not entitled to any favour, after behaving in an insolent manner to the Lieutenant and threatening any lieutenant who dared to touch him. The officer had to send him round in a boat as he refused to walk.
Folios 99-100: enclosure with folios 97-98. Letter dated 14 June 1813 by Jonas Cockerell in North Shields. Requesting to pay for the discharge of Roger Tongs from impressment, now on board HMS Transit. He has to support an aged father and mother and several aunts as well as a wife and family.
Folio 101: enclosure with folios 97-98. Affadavit from John Proud, Master of the Sunderland Packet, of the Port of Sunderland, confirming that he has appointed Roger Tongs as Chief Mate on his ship which is employed in the coal, coasting and Baltic trade. Roger Tongs is frequently obliged to be on shore and he does not work on His Majesty's ships and is not a deserter.
